Senior Data Engineer

As a senior member of PayJoy's Data and Infrastructure team, you will help lead the effort to improve and build the next generation of PayJoy’s data platform in order to support our goal of serving a billion users over the next several years.

We’re looking for someone with a collaborative spirit who likes to get things done. You’ll have many internal partners eager to work with you: our data scientists, data engineers, API engineers, and more. You’ll get to learn from the challenges in front of you as well as from your talented colleagues.


  • Develop and automate scalable data pipelines
  • Design data models for optimal storage and retrieval, to meet critical business needs
  • Ensure delivery of data with high data quality in a rapid reliable manner using industry best practices
  • Contribute to internal tools and frameworks oriented towards data
  • Influence cross functional teams of business stakeholders, engineers and team members to drive maximum value from data
  • Optimize existing queries and provide the best cost to performance ratio
  • Develop tools for data monitoring and alert systems with a focus on business value
  • Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in Software engineering or data engineering with a focus on building data platforms
  • Extensive experience with Python or Java and SQL
  • Expertise is Snowflake or similar distributed/cloud RDBMS
  • Experience in building real-time or batch pipelines using Spark/SQL or other open source frameworks
  • Data security and privacy (GDPR,CCPA etc.)
  • Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in Amazon AWS or similar cloud computing platforms
  • Kafka/Kinesis data streaming experience
  • Experience with search systems (Elasticsearch/NoSQL)
  • Experience in data lake/warehouse architectures
