PayJoy is looking for a General Counsel and Head of Compliance to join our executive team. This role will be responsible for PayJoy’s Legal and Compliance functions globally.  The role can be based in Mexico or the United States.  PayJoy is deeply committed to our users and we see Compliance and Legal as a way to ensure we deliver products that reflect our values. We are looking for an entrepreneurial lawyer with Compliance experience who can help us continue our global expansion and deliver quality financial services to the world’s emerging middle class.  

Responsibilities

  • Build and run PayJoy’s Legal department as part of PayJoy’s executive team
  • Lead and grow PayJoy’s Compliance function 
  • Chair PayJoy’s Compliance Committee of the Board 
  • Own PayJoy’s Legal and Compliance strategy, ensuring it enables us to scale from 2 products in 3 countries to 4+ products in 10+ countries in the next 5 years
  • Work collaboratively with product and engineering teams to ensure compliant practices are a part of product design and implemented in a scalable and user-centric way
  • Provide legal and compliance guidance to lines of business regarding products/services and new initiatives
  • Inform leadership and board about emerging legal and regulatory risks and providing proposals for how best to mitigate these emerging risks
  • Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience with experience leading both Legal and Compliance groups
  • Experience building and growing Legal and Compliance teams
  • Experience in consumer financial products
  • Experience working on products based outside the US
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways 
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Spanish
